This article is about the Islamic call to prayer. The adhan (Arabic: أَذَان ‎ [ʔaˈðaːn]), also written as adhaan, azan, azaan, or athan, also called ezan in Turkish, is the Islamic call to prayer, recited by the muezzin at prescribed times of the day.

“And I [also] bear witness that there is no deity but God, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of God, and I suffice by it (the testimonies) against whoever refuses and fights against it (the testimonies), and I designate by it one who agrees and testifies.”Whenever Muhammad's name is mentioned in the Adhan or Immediately following the Adhan, Shia Muslims sit and recite the following For the settlement in لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ عَلِيٌّ وَلِيُّ ٱللَّٰهِوَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ رَضِيتُ بِٱللَّٰهِ رَبًّا وَمُحَمَّدٍ رَسُولًا وَبِٱلْإِسْلَامِ دِينًاٱللَّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ ٱللَّٰهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌٱللَّٰهُمَّ رَبَّ هَٰذِهِ ٱلدَّعْوَةِ ٱلتَّامَّةِ وَٱلصَّلاَةِ ٱلْقَائِمَةِ آتِ مُحَمَّدًا ٱلْوَسِيلَةَ وَٱلْفَضِيلَةَ وَٱبْعَثْهُ مَقَامًا مَحْمُودًا ٱلَّذِي وَعَدْتَهُوَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ (صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ) أَكْتَفِي بِهَا عَمَّنْ أَبَىٰ وَجَحَدَ وَأُعِينُ بِهَا مَنْ أَقَرَّ وَشَهِدَٱللَّٰهُمَّ ٱجْعَلْ قَلْبِي بَارًّا وَرِزْقِي دَارًّا وَٱجْعَلْ لِي عِنْدَ قَبْرِ نَبِيِّكَ (صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ) قَرَارًا وَمُسْتَقَرًّاSunan al-Tirmidhi (Arabic) Chapter of Fitan, 2:45 (India) and 4:501 Tradition # 2225 (Egypt); Hadith #2149 (numbering of al-'Alamiyyah) The muezzin is chosen for his ability in reciting the Adhan reminds Muslims of these three Islamic teaching The phrase is optional to some Shia as justified above. “Come to success.” It also is recommended that he does not accept any wage for this job, except form the national treasury or from charitable endowments.«إِذَا حَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَلْيُؤَذِّنْ لَكُمْ أَحَدُكُمْ، وَلْيُؤَمَّكُمْ أَكْبَرُكُمْ»إِذَا كُنْتَ فِي غَنَمِكَ أَوْ بَادِيَتِكَ، فَأَذَّنْتَ بِالصَّلاةِ، فَارْفَعْ صَوْتَكَ، فَإِنَّهُ لا يَسْمَعُ مَدَى صَوْتِ الْمُؤَذِّنَ جِنٌّ، وَلا إِنْسٌ، وَلا شَيْءٌ إِلا«اَللهُ أَكْبَرُ، اَللهُ أَكْبَرُ ، اَللهُ أَكْبَرُ ، اَللهُ أَكْبَرُ »Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar.«أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ،أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ »«أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ، أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَّسُولُ اللهِ»Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasoolullaah, Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasoolullaah.«اَلصَّلَاةُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ النَّوْمِ، اَلصَّلَاةُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ النَّوْمِ»
