Philippe Noiret was justifiably honored with the French Cesar Award for his towering performance in Old Gun. It's curious that in this "quality cinema" practiced by some French directors, quality tends to be superficial. "The Gun" is a science fiction short story by American writer Philip K. Dick, first published in 1952 September issue of Planet Stories, and later published in Beyond Lies the Wub in 1984. During the occupation, Noiret loses his wife and daughter to Nazi bullets.
